Finding Meaning in Suffering
I Searched
And I Searched.
Submerged in suffering
I drowned ever more,
With every passing effort to defuse the agony.
Trapped in a mental quicksand,
Desperation met despair;
And I searched frantically-
Searched to make sense
Of why life had turned on me
And how to stop the bleeding,
If even momentarily.
This was no reasonable affair,
But I had learned long ago,
Reason always prevails.
With no rescue boat in sight
And no solution to end the plight
I accepted my fate;
Having recognized, paradoxically,
The answer lay not in the external fight,
But rather within my reasoned choice.
And that choice confessed-
Suffering is perpetual
And we find the meaning of life
When we find the meaning in suffering.
