Insecurity Disguised as Morality

I engaged in a self-less act once

An act seemingly triggered by direction from my own moral compass

At the end,

Awaiting praise for the deed,

I pondered the acts intent-

Was I directed by my moral compass

Or driven by my desire for applause?

This was no moral act,

But rather insecurity disguised as morality
