The Irony of Ignorance

I made a grave mistake once

And engaged with an ignorant man

What more, even proclaimed to him loudly,

That he held the characteristics of ignorance.

We sparred and traded jabs for a while

Till the scuffle eventually subsided and we parted ways.

Who was the victor? I deliberated

What the scoreboard showed, I wanted to erase

He had left me with a residue of frustration on my face

An infuriating exchange, that I could not shake

Clearly, the crook had had his way

It occurred to me then

How badly I had failed

For I did not know better,

In the face of ignorance,

It is better to not engage.

In that way, the ignorant man was me.
