Virtue and the Wolf
It is a travesty in many ways
How our species takes on the day
Arming ourselves with tools and tactics
To navigate a treacherous age
A necessary evil however,
It pains me to say
We may rule the animal kingdom
But have wolves amongst our flock;
So it is then not only wise, but essential,
To guard against their wants.
To them, we are prey
Uncaring, whether we radiate benevolence,
Or are old and gray.
To shield our herd, there is no choice then
We must slay them first,
Or at least keep them at bay
Kill or be killed,
Has always been the way
Where then is virtue
If we must play such a game?
And what good is it to sit atop the food chain
If we must always take cover, or take aim
To this I say-
Deploy virtue everyday
In every situation
In every way.
And when there is no other way,
Smear blood on your face
Take the bull by the horn
And toss him out of your way.
Virtue can guide you,
But the wolf will slaughter you.
